Field Development

Multiple Rumaila Operating Organisation (ROO) teams have taken part in a project to overhaul turbines to keep the Rumaila Power Plant (RPP) running smoothly.

ROO team members and contractors have completed the first half of a project aimed at overhauling and maintaining gas turbines at the RPP. These turbines are essential to keeping the plant, which helps deliver stable and reliable power to facilities in northern Rumaila, running without interruption and support Rumaila to meet its production goals.

The work consisted of stripping down the turbines to replace the hot gas path (combustion) components with new parts, as well as conducting preventative five-year maintenance tasks on the auxiliary systems, main generators and transformers. Other activities included upkeeps to the generator as well as upgrading electrical infrastructure and conducting meticulous safety checks.

Work on the first turbine lasted a total of 47 days, with the second turbine overhauled and maintained over a 42-day period. Activities were carried out by approximately 15 ROO staff members and 40 contractors.

Work to overhaul and maintain the remaining gas turbines at the plant is set to continue in 2025, with two further turbines to be overhauled in the coming year. This work will support the facility to continue to play its part in keeping production running safely and reliably, in aid of the wider ROO operation.

The Rumaila Power Plant Team – contributing to Rumaila’s overall growth by:

  1. supporting operational continuity across the field
  2. enabling increased production capacity to drive Rumaila’s future growth
  3. helping ensure safe and compliant production, to protect Rumaila’s people and the field
  4. supporting sustainable production at ROO reducing costs through streamlining production processes and boosting reliability.
