As one of Rumaila’s priority projects, this project involves the construction of infrastructure to carry electricity from the Rumaila Power Plant (RPP) to every ESP wellhead across the 1,600km2 Rumaila field. The second phase of this ambitious, multi-year project has now been successfully completed.
The project continues to rely on thorough planning and collaborative delivery with numerous departments and teams contributing their efforts, as well as external contractors. As a result of the robust risk assessments in place, staff adhering to safety practices and continuous training for supervisors and contractors, there has been a high level of positive safety observations recorded to date.
By using power from the RPP, the ESP wells will no longer be powered by individual diesel generators, resulting in more stable power supply, major cost savings and a solution that is better for the environment. As a result of this project, oil production will be sustained for years to come.
