Iraq’s first well rock core museum opens at Rumaila

In a historic milestone for Iraq’s oil and gas sector, the Rumaila Operating Organisation has proudly inaugurated the country’s first Well Rock Core Museum.
A unique facility dedicated to preserving and showcasing geological core samples from across the Rumaila oilfield and beyond.
Project initiated in 2011, beginning with specialist training in London on cutting and modelling cylindrical core samples.
Over the past decade, teams have curated a large collection of rock cores from wells and reservoirs in North Rumaila, South Rumaila and other locations.
The museum serves as a valuable resource for training technical specialists, including geologists, reservoir engineers, petrophysicists and production and drilling engineers.
Local graduates will also have access, supporting national capability development.
