Supporting Communities

Rumaila teams have visited nine schools (reaching more than 4,000 schoolchildren) in communities local to the oilfield to provide road safety awareness sessions. The initiative – which is the first of its kind – shared important information with pupils on how they can stay safe when travelling to and from school.

The sessions were delivered by safety trainers from Rumaila’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department together with the Communications & External Affairs (C&EA) Community Team’s Liaison Officers, in co-ordination with the Land Transport Risk Team and local school principals.

The campaign covered essential safety training on navigating traffic, recognizing road signs and safe behaviour when travelling to school whether on foot, by bus or bicycle. To help the campaign have a lasting impact and encourage the pupils to follow the guidance long term, the sessions also involved parents and teachers.

Hani Adeeb, Al-Tawfiq School Principal (one of the schools that received the sessions) commented: “We truly appreciate Rumaila’s efforts in launching such initiatives. You have our full support for any future programmes.”

The expertise and enthusiasm of Rumaila’s workforce was at the heart of this campaign. This is one of many initiatives that has been delivered by the Rumaila Operating Organisation to support those communities in and around the oilfield.
