Donations raised by ROO staff have funded refurbishments at the Al Dura school to help improve the teaching environment.

Located on the road leading up to Rumaila Headquarters in the south of the field, the school provides education to some 300 children. However, the condition of the classrooms and rest rooms had in recent years fallen into disrepair.

At the direction of Rumaila General Manager, Hussein Abdul-Khadhum Hussein, the Communication and External Affairs Team (C&EA) reached out to the school to understand the problems that they faced and to see how Rumaila could help.

When staff visited the school, it was clear that the classrooms were in need of new lighting, white and black boards and fans and air-conditioning [AC] units to keep students and teachers cool in the heat. A total of $61, 189 was donated from Rumaila staff to the refurbishment project.

The work, which was completed during school holidays, included repainting each classroom; installing fans and AC units; repairing the roof, and replacing windows, doors and electrical fittings.
